I must share one simple thought with you before I hit the sack tonight for another day of pharmacy fun in the morning.
I have a point to ponder for the general masses out there in the world who frequent their local pharmacy….if you can’t get away with doing about what you are thinking about doing at any other retail store, say Walmart for example, then you should really consider if it is appropriate to do in a pharmacy. It may be appropriate, but that is a decision you alone will have to contemplate and make.
What do I mean by this?
Well, at Walmart it would never be acceptable to skip everyone in line, hand the cashier a five dollar bill and say, “I got some milk and bread…keep the change.”
At Walmart, you want it, you pay for it…one way or another. You may use cash, check, or credit, but you will pay at the time of purchase.
At Walmart you must physically walk in the store to get milk and bread. It cannot be handed through a drive thru window.
I would never be able to call Walmart, tell them the items I wanted to buy, and have them put these items aside in a buggy with my name on it.
Furthermore, this may be possible, but I have never called Walmart and asked them how much my milk was going to be, so that I had enough money when I got there. And then go on to ask them to give me a total of everything that I was going to buy.
I do not think that Walmart owes it to me to deliver my milk to my front door for free. This is not to say that delivering medication is a bad thing. I think it is a lovely and generous service that some people rely on. The reference to Walmart is only a point to ponder.
These are only a few reasons why pharmacies that will do any of the above mentioned things for you are way better than any other retail stores. My pharmacy people go the extra mile, and for that, should be appreciated!
In the words of one of my favorite pharmacists, “I just like helping people.”
